About Van Meekren Law Firm

Van Meekren Advocatuur is a law firm specializing in criminal law, based in Amsterdam. Committed, adept, exceptional these are the core values that Van Meekren Advocatuur stands for. The firm does not shy away from difficult cases, and quality is its top priority.

Van Meekren Advocatuur is still a small firm—Bram Horenblas is the only lawyer on staff lawyer but don’t worry: Appel Strafrechtadvocatuur and Cras Advocatuur are also located in the same building. So, in effect, you’re dealing with five attorneys. We have lunch, brainstorm, and regularly do fun things together. The bulk of the work and guidance comes from Bram Horenblas.

Brams’ practice reflects the firms where he has worked to date. While there is a slight emphasis on fraud cases, the firm also handles sex crimes, cases involving the Opium Act, violent crimes, and the occasional terrorism case. We handle appeals to the Supreme Court ourselves, as well as complaints filed with the European Court of Human Rights.

What does Van Meekren Advocatuur have to offer?

Quality comes first. Interns will be mentored with this principle in mind. That means high standards, but also intensive guidance. During the internship, there’s plenty of room for personal development. At first, you’ll mainly shadow Bram on his cases, but over time, you’ll be expected to develop your own practice. The direction of that development hasn’t been determined yet. Do you have a preference for sex crimes cases? Or are you a real appeal specialist? If so, we’ll focus our efforts on that!

What is expected of you?

You must have at least a (nearly) completed master’s degree in criminal law or another relevant master’s degree with civil law components. You are intelligent, but also sociable and motivated. You’re not afraid to speak in public. A certain affinity with criminal law clients is required. A previous internship at another criminal law firm is a plus, as is relevant work experience with the Public Prosecutor’s Office or the judiciary.

Are you afraid of dogs or allergic to them? If so, this job opening isn't the best fit for you. Bram has a dog, and it regularly comes to the office.

Please send your cover letter, resume, transcript(s), and any letters of recommendation (up to two) to [email protected] by August 31, 2026. The first interviews will be scheduled for the week of September 14, 2026. More information about the application process will be provided for each round.
